Ingredients

For the Filling

3 Cooking Apples (Peeled & Roughly Chopped)

150 g Caster Sugar

1 Lemon (Zested)

For the Topping

100 g Dark Muscado Sugar

50 g Oats

50 g Flaked Almonds

500 g Unsalted Butter (Cubed)

1000 g Plain Flour

300 g Caster Sugar

2 tsp Vanilla Extract

The crumble topping leftovers can be frozen to be used at a later date. Bramley apples work well.

Classic Apple Crumble

Method

  1. To make the crumble topping, using your finger tips rub the butter and flour together in a large bowl until it resemble breadcrumbs.

  2. Add the other ingredients and mix together.

  3. Peel and core the apples, roughly chop and add to a pan along with the sugar and lemon zest and a good splash of water. Cook on a medium high heat for 10 minutes with the lid on.

  4. Add the apple filling to an oven proof dish and sprinkle the crumble topping on top (the rest can be frozen for a later date), add a splash of water on top (optional) and then bake for 30 minutes.
